Jodrell Bank is a site of global importance in the history of radio astronomy. Founded in 1945, it is the earliest radio astronomy observatory in the world still in existence and pioneered the exploration of the universe using radio waves.

Day 1
Depart during the morning and travel to the Hack Green Nuclear Bunker. Here group entrance is included. Hack Green was one of the nation’s most secret defence sites. It has played a central role in the defence of Britain for almost sixty years. It was one of 21 fixed radar stations in the country and one of only 12 fully equipped with searchlights and fighter aircraft control. From here we will travel to the Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre. Again group entrance is included. After the visit the coach will depart for your hotel – the 4* Park Royal Hotel near Warrington.
Day 2
After breakfast the coach will depart for Manchester and the Museum of Science & Industry. This free to enter museum is devoted to inspiring visitors through ideas that change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today and beyond. It’s a story that the museum is uniquely placed to tell on the site of the oldest surviving passenger railway station, in the heart of the world’s first industrial city, today alive with innovative discoveries in science and technology. The museum is a globally important heritage site comprising five listed buildings, two of them listed Grade 1. This site was the original terminus of the world’s first inter-city railway and the characteristic 1830 Warehouse epitomize Manchester’s
19th-century reputation as the “warehouse of the western world”. In addition to the many things that you will see, there is also a café, restaurant and shop. The coach will depart during the late afternoon for the journey back to your local area, arriving during the early evening.
