The History & Beauty of Breathtaking Northumberland 5 Days / 4 Nights

Day 1
Depart during the morning (approx. 08.00 hrs) and travel north, making a comfort stop at a place of interest en-route to Alnwick and our hotel – The White Swan. Accommodation is reserved for four nights on a dinner, bed and breakfast.

Days 2 – 4
During the tour, the following excursions are included:
•    A visit to Alnwick Castle, one of the largest inhabited castles in the country.  It has been home to the Duke of Northumberland’s family, the Percy’s for over 700 years.  Combining magnificent medieval architecture with sumptuous Italianate State Rooms, Alnwick castle is one of the UK’s most significant heritage destinations.  In addition to the Castle we will also visit the Alnwick Garden, the world’s most extraordinary contemporary garden.
•    A full day excursion of the Northumberland coast, including entrance and guided tour of Bamburgh Castle, followed by a visit across the causeway to Holy Island, tides permitting!
•    A visit to Cragside.  Enter the world of Lord Armstrong – Victorian inventor, innovator and landscape genius.  Cragside house was truly a wonder of its age.  Discover the first house in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity.  It is crammed full of ingenious gadgets – most of them still working, and the gardens are incredible too!  Cragside is a National Trust property therefore any National Trust members will gain free entrance.  For those who aren’t members the current group rate is £12.50 per person, which must be pre-booked and paid in advance – please see booking form for details.

Day 5
After breakfast we must check out of the hotel and commence our return journey, stopping at the picturesque spa town of Harrogate before continuing back to your local area, arriving during the early/mid evening.
